This case study details the process behind a selection of advert designs for Liffey Mills, one of Ireland’s leading grain and agricultural merchants. With over 70 years’ experience their business is closely integrated with the farming community across Ireland. With a team of agronomists, nutritionists and feed specialists with both academic and practical expertise their aim is to deliver superior quality products that maximise profit for their customers. Liffey Mills is also a major retailer of fertiliser, seeds, agrochemicals and hardware.

At Graphic Index, we have designed multiple advertisements for Liffey Mills. It is important to us and to the client that the advert design is relevant and current, so that we catch the attention of as many potential customers as possible. For each of these adverts, we have looked at current events (sporting, political, etc.) and built the adverts around these ideas.

There is often an element of humour involved in the advert design, which is a joint effort between us and the client. When we have reached an idea or a theme, it is up to us create an image that fits the humour and conveys the message effectively. We also frequently design ads with a more business-like tone when it is required.

The advert design for Liffey Mills is always well received by the client and their customers.

Their goal is to achieve growth by continuing to change and diversify through superior customer service, outstanding quality, innovation and specialisation.

Graphic Index worked with Templetuohy Farm Machinery in designing promotional material that included invitations, brochures, newspaper advertising and pull-up stands for “Experience the Technology”, an event in The Hub, Kilkenny to showcase new technology and farm machinery. We discussed what was needed with the client, and clearly set out our goals and time frame for the project.

The aim was to create graphics that would raise the profile of the Templetuohy Farm Machinery brand, while complementing the John Deere and Lemken brands. Farmers and agricultural professionals from around Ireland would be attending the event, so we needed the material to speak to them in particular. Our experience in dealing with the agricultural sector over many years helped to inform our design and communication decisions throughout the project.

We set to work on designing these materials, keeping the client informed and engaged throughout the process. Effective communication between designer and client is key to achieving excellent results. We organised the production of all printed and exhibition material. Our network of printing and exhibition professionals ensures top quality material that meet deadlines.

Agriculture was originally the Shows’ main focus, but this has broadened considerably over the years to evolve with Ireland’s changing culture, with entertainment, food, crafts, fashion, lifestyle, pets corner, live music, skills demonstrations and cookery demonstrations the order of the day.
It is the culmination of many months work in researching and planning the best way to showcase our work and communicate our wares to our prospective clients. We are grateful to Emarkable.ie, our digital partners who guided us through the process of a new website design from start to finish.

Having recently re-branded we saw the need to develop our online presence in a strategic and forward thinking way. Like so many businesses our website had become a remote entity that was a vague reference point for our work but we wanted to develop a living online presence that we could engage with on an ongoing basis and would evolve with us. This needed careful planning and a shift in mindset to incorporate it into the day to day running of the business.

Alignment of our brand and our website with our social media policy was also a priority. The large variety and volume of information we are faced with daily can be daunting when trying to decipher and process it. We consulted with social media and online marketing experts to gain some perspective and focus in our online engagement.

We look forward to the development of the site and our online presence into the future. We hope you like it and look forward to hearing from you.

Graphic Index are proud to announce our recent re-brand.

The business began in 1998 and the current identity has served us well since it was designed and launched in 1999 with minor updates in 2001. The business began with a clear focus on corporate identity design and illustration and print management.

Over the years we expanded into other areas such as multi-media and web design. This range of services and expertise presented our client base with a complete visual communications offering – hence the concept of the “index,” a reference point for all things “graphic” design.

The symbol we designed in 1999 represents an obsolete typographic character called an “index” or manicule (from the Latin root manus for ‘hand’ and manicula for ‘little hand’). The index was used in manuscripts since the 12th Century and was popular in print into the 20th Century to draw attention to important information in a document. You may be familiar with this pointed finger symbol, often elaborately drawn. Our version of the index was more abstract and incorporated our initials GI.

Our new logotype retains the original concept, just rendered in a more contemporary style. Our black and orange colour scheme also survives although the shade of orange has changed a little too. We are excited about the fresh new look of Graphic Index which follows a complete business review and a positive outlook on the future. Our new signage went up recently and our new stationery and website is about to launch.

Wayne released his new studio album ‘Live, Love, Sing and Dance’ in April. It is a collection of beautiful moments, situations and feelings from some of the most beautiful Islands on Earth.

The album is an ode to living life to the full. The songs on this new album were written (during an extended 2 year trip around the world) on the Island of Fuerteventura in the Canaries, the Island of Bali in Indonesia, the Islands of Koh Lanta and Koh Phangan in Thailand, the Island of Ponza in Italy, Barry Island in Wales, London and finishing off in his ‘home Island’ of Ireland.

We had the pleasure of designing Wayne’s album cover and inlay card, his launch material, and his website and social media graphics. It was a breath of fresh air to work with such a creative client and share ideas. The travel theme of the artwork was enhanced by the wonderful photos of Jon Hernandez.

Live, Love Sing and Dance is available on www.waynebrennan.com

Over the past 4 years Feirm Factor has challenged some of Ireland’s most talented farmers, pitting them against one another to find one winner. Clann Feirm Factor is now looking for farming families.

Families will undertake a variety of agricultural related tasks and projects presented in a competitive and entertaining format that will make for great TV viewing. This is an opportunity for 8 of Ireland’s top farming families to fight it out to be crowned Ireland’s top farming family and take home a host of amazing prizes as there is more than family pride at stake.

The new format called for a re-brand and we were delighted to be cast in the design role. We completed a brand review and explored some new concepts as we completed the sleek, and shiny new identity in time for filming this May. We wish all the best to Evan and the team at Good Company Productions as they continue filming and production over the coming months. We look forward to seeing our work on the small screen in Spring 2015 and hope you enjoy the show.
